Cairns to get Vision!
After many years of prayer, we?re excited that an opportunity has finally arisen to bring a positive Christian Radio alternative to Cairns!
Starting a radio station with a high quality program from scratch is usually a very expensive exercise. That?s where Vision is different. Because we are already a 24 hour/7 day broadcaster heard all over Australia, local communities need simply help obtain licences and establish local transmission facilities and we can simply ?plug in? to an excellent quality, positive station with real encouragement for everyday life.
Our ideal preference is for a single, high powered FM or AM service that covers a region. Sadly this is not an option in Cairns as there are no such licences available. The great news is that we have been able to secure a network of 14 low powered FM services that together will give excellent coverage of the city and surrounds. They are;

UCB Australia (operators of Vision Radio Network) has secured the licences and some exisiting transmission equipment however funds need to be raised and much work still needs to be done to complete the project. Here's a summary of the current situation;
UCB Australia has signed a purchase agreement to buy this existing network, to be paid over the next nine months.
UCB Australia has placed a deposit of $20,000 based on its funds and two anonymous donors who have a heart for this project.
To complete the purchase agreement of the network licences that has been signed by UCB Australia and to complete the installation of all licences as well as initiate a comprehensive Cairns wide marketing campaign, a fund raising strategy needs to be put in place.
Total Project cost to implement network $150,000 With $10,000 of deposit paid for from local support a balance of $140,000 is being sought to complete this network launch, broken down as follows; Network Acquisition (incl. some studio and transmission equipment) $110,000. Network implementation cost of unused licences, approx $30,000. A basic marketing initiative of coreflute signage, notices/newsletters, mailouts and provision of The Word for Today devotionals to church congregations; approx $10,000
What is needed?
In order to see this project completed, we need;
Local supporters (Visionaries) who will passionately coordinate the distribution of information and be spokespeople at a local church level.
Preferably one person as ?Cairns Coordinator? who has the support of the Ministers Fraternal to be the conduit for information. Someone who will facilitate (but not control) the technical and marketing initiatives.
Fund raising of $140,000 to see the 14 station network fully switched on and announced to Cairns.
Our strategy
Firstly we have already turned on the first two licences as a test so that Cairns can experience the Vision Radio Network. These licences may need to be relocated in the future to fit in with site licence arrangements and the broadcast pattern of the other licences to get the most comprehensive coverage but presently they cover 75-80% of the Cairns population.
Fund Raising Project (Strategy)
Mailout to local UCB Australia contacts in the Cairns and Atherton Table lands by UCB Australia.
Announcement to the Churches of Cairns and the surrounding regions from
UCB Australia via the Ministers Fraternal contacts.
Contact to Cairns Christian Businesses to discuss Business Sponsorship packages.
Personal contact by Visionary supporters.
Find and release Local Visionaries
Able to speak to home groups, business meetings and make or arrange Church announcements.
Willing to distribute newsletters and updates on station launch and fundraising information.
Able to arrange signage in strategic locations
Willing to hand out The Word for Today at churches.
Appoint a Cairns Coordinator
Someone who believes in reaching Cairns to activate Christians in their Faith and reach Cairns for the Gospel.
Able to speak to the Ministers Fraternal providing updates on progress of
Technical, Fundraising and Marketing initiatives.
Having respect in the Business sector to gain business sponsorship and support for the project.
Demonstrating Faith.
Some ideas on how you can be involved
Personal Support
It has always been the case that the day to day operations of the Vision Radio network have been supported by regular people giving regular amounts. We hope that first of all the people of Cairns will invest in the start up fund raiser for the Cairns network.
After this becoming a supporter through the Partnership Plus programme helps the network keep reaching out. You can support the Partnership Plus programme through direct debit or credit card for monthly amounts of $5, $15, $31 or $75. This monthly support programme is the most effective way personal support can help the network as you contribution to this home mission.
Business Support
UCB Australia can accommodate financial support from Businesses in two ways. A straight donation is tax deductible and a tax deductible receipt will be issued at the end of the financial year. Secondly, businesses who wish to advertise on the Vision Radio Network would be financially supporting the network as well as gaining a tax deductible benefit to their business. For example;
20 x Businesses buying $500/month advertising for 10 months = $100,000 and/or;
10 x Businesses giving a one off donation of $5000 = $50,000
Church Support
If a church was to nominate the Vision Radio Network as a key part of their home mission strategy then a donation from their general or mission fund could go towards the establishment of the Cairns network purchase and installation. For example;
20 x Churches giving a one off donation of $2,000 = $40,000 and/or;
10 x Churches giving a one off donation of $500 = $5,000
Please note, we believe that each fund raising situation is unique and no formula should be applied. The illustrations above are to show the possibilities that very simply can show how God?s people can contribute to the Kingdom purposes.
