In the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Bilbo Baggins finds himself in an uncomfortable spot. At the request of the grey-garbed wizard Gandalf, Bilbo is called to accompany a dozen warrior dwarfs into the den of a raging dragon.

This prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy extolls the virtues of bravery, loyalty and self-sacrifice. But there are visceral moments of sharp-clawed and sword-swinging violence, along with some dark, roaring scariness that could push this pic out of bounds for young kids in the audience. For 12 and up, however, Focus on the Family will be giving The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3 hungry trolls out of 5 for family friendliness.
